What We Listened to in 2013: Top Hit Songs and Music Videos

The top mega hit for 2013 is arguably Robin Thicke’s “monster R&B body shaker “Blurred Lines.”  Whether the song was helped or hurt by Miley Cryus – who knows? Thicke is presently being sued by the family of Marvin Gaye over the super-hit, and Miley Cyrus is still swinging from trees and wrecking balls in general. She swears that she cleverly planned and pre-calculated her “strategic hot mess” image in the media. Ok Miley, whatever. You don’t go … girl. In the end it’s the sheer popularity of the melody and the hook itself, and this song just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Congratulations Robin. You have a mega-hit on your hands.

Katy Perry’s “Roar” must also be mentioned, which was released late in the year, but has already skyrocketed. Her official music video for “Roar” is already sitting at 255 million YT views after just a couple of months. That’s HUGE. Congrats Katy, and that music video is so damn cute, by the way, that I almost forgot you were a chillingly sinister mind controlled Illuminati media princess. Good job!

This boy band has just about made Justin Bieber irrelevant this year, along with Justin’s own monumentally hard to believe ‘high profile asshole’ behavior. I’m not including any Bieber hits in this post, as I believe the boy to be overpaid, over-pampered, under-educated and about 12 years old emotionally. Justin’s last real hit was “Boyfriend” which has garnered about 292 million views since 2012. Then came a series of ever escalating ‘stupid Justin moments’ which were captured on video and broadcast to the world, making us all wonder if the man was actually TRYING to kill his own career on purpose. WTF. If or when he grows up and displays signs of intelligent life and real manhood, he might get covered on this blog now and then.

Vocalist Karmin is an exceptional raw and electric vocal talent, an unusual performing artist in every way. Her 2012 hit “Hello” barely scratched the surface of what this vocalist is capable of, but tragically, whoever is handling her career has managed to nearly derail it with poor styles choices and an almost laughably generic watered down presentation of Karmin in her 2013 ‘Acapella’ music video. If Karmin can do what Taylor Swift did early on, which is to break free from mediocre management which lacks talent and vision for the eccentric artist, and go out on her own label, she has a chance to salvage a potentially stellar music [ and possibly film later ] career. Fire these people Karmin, you can do better on your own. Lose the blue lipstick too.

YouTube Rewind for 2013: What Was Hot

This video went viral in 12 hours with more than 4 million views. That’s actually pretty hot, in and of itself. If you see a bunch of writhing leaping people in the video below, and you don’t know who they are, don’t feel alone. It just means you don’t live on YT enough to know what got famous every 15 seconds in 2013, before the next big thing came along. Consider this 5 minutes spent to catch up on all the lamest non-news events which got more web traffic in 30 minutes than all of your own blogs combined will ever get in a lifetime. It’s real inspiration for us news bloggers all to keep on plugging, huh?

Maybe if I put on a plastic horse head and leaped around my front lawn for 5 or 10 minutes it would help my blog traffic. But then again, nah.
